Children's first eye examination should take place after birth, during the first medical examination at the hospital or birth center. Then, they should be checked regularly by a pediatrician or pediatric ophthalmologist at around 6 months, 3 years, and preschool age (around 5-6 years).
Main inspection periods:
After birth: The first eye examination is done in the hospital shortly after birth.
6 months: First more detailed eye exam.
At 3 years: Vision and eye movements are checked.
Preschool age (5-6 years): To check for any vision problems when they are ready to start school.
If the child has a specific problem with the eyes, the doctor may prescribe additional and more frequent examinations.
