Tonometry examination

Tonometry examination and treatment

Tonometry is a procedure used to measure intraocular pressure, and this examination is one of the main tools for diagnosing glaucoma (increased intraocular pressure). Glaucoma is a serious eye disease that can lead to vision loss if left untreated.

Types of tonometry examination:

Applanation tonometry: This method is used to flatten the front of the eye and is the most commonly used method.
Impact tonometry: It is performed with an instrument that touches the eye with a certain force.
Non-contact (air puff) tonometry: Intraocular pressure is measured by air pressure without contact with the eye.
Dynamic contour tonometry: To more accurately measure intraocular pressure, an instrument with a special shape that fits the eye is used.

Treatment:

Glaucoma treatment usually includes the following methods:

Medical treatment: Intraocular pressure is reduced with eye drops, oral medications, or both.
Laser treatment: Reduces intraocular pressure with methods such as laser trabeculoplasty or laser iridotomy.
Surgical intervention: Trabeculectomy or other surgical methods are used to reduce intraocular pressure.

Tonometry examination and treatment process:

Examination: The eye doctor will first measure your intraocular pressure and, if necessary, perform additional examinations.
Diagnosis: As a result of examinations, the presence of glaucoma will be determined.
Treatment plan: Once diagnosed, your doctor will determine the most appropriate treatment plan for you.
Regular follow-up: Treatment progress and intraocular pressure will be monitored regularly.

If caught early, glaucoma can be managed with treatment and vision loss can be prevented. Therefore, regular eye examinations are very important.
