Visiometry examination

alt

Visiometry is an ophthalmological test that measures the ability of the eyes to see. This examination is used to evaluate the visual acuity and visual functions of the eyes. Visiometry tests are usually performed by optometrists and ophthalmologists and are important for the diagnosis and treatment of various vision problems.

Purpose of Visiometry Examination

Measuring Visual Acuity: Determining how well the eyes can see.
Detection of Refractive Defects: Detecting refractive defects such as myopia (farsightedness), hypermetropia (nearsightedness), astigmatism.
Diagnosis of vision problems: It can be used for the initial diagnosis of cataract, glaucoma and other eye diseases.
Eyeglasses and Lens Prescription: Providing the correct eyeglass or contact lens prescription.

Conducting Visiometry Examination

Visiometry examination can consist of various tests. Below I explain some of the most common tests and how they are performed:

1. Snellen Chart Test

How to Perform:

The patient is placed 6 meters (20 feet) away.
The patient closes one eye and tries to read the letters shown on the table with the other eye.
The letters are arranged in descending order from top to bottom.
Visual acuity is noted next to the line where the patient can correctly read the smallest letters (for example, 20/20).

2. Refraction Test

How to Perform:

It is carried out using a special device (phoriopter) or optical lenses.
The patient reads the chart through different lenses.
The doctor determines which lenses provide the best vision for the patient.
This test is used for glasses or contact lens prescription.

3. Autorefractometry

How to Perform:

An automatic device called an autorefractometer is used.
The patient looks into the device and the device measures the refractive errors of the eyes.
Test results are obtained quickly and accurately.

4. Visual Field Test

How to Perform:

It is used to evaluate different points of the field of vision.
Shows the location of lights in the peripheral (side) field of vision when the patient is looking at a certain point.
This test is important in diagnosing glaucoma and other optic nerve diseases.

5. Contrast Sensitivity Test

How to Perform:

Tests the ability to identify objects at different contrast levels.
This test is useful in the early stages of diseases such as cataracts and age-related macular degeneration.

Preparation before the examination

Contact Lens Removal: It is recommended that you remove your contact lenses before the examination.
Eye Drops: In some cases, eye drops may be used to dilate the eyes.

Visiometry examination is an important tool to assess eye health and determine appropriate treatment or corrective measures. Routine eye exams are important to protect your vision and detect eye diseases at an early stage.
