Does It Take a Long Time to Get Used to New Eyeglasses?

Getting used to new glasses

How long does it take to get used to new glasses? In most cases, it only takes a few days to get used to the new glasses.

What problems can you face with new glasses? When you first put on your glasses, everything may seem blurry. As you get used to seeing it, you may experience headaches and nausea.

All this is normal. These symptoms happen to almost everyone when wearing new glasses and usually last for a few days.

Problems When Using New Eyeglasses

Whether you're wearing glasses for the first time or you've just changed your eyesight, you'll need to go through a period of adaptation to be completely comfortable using your new glasses.

During this time, you may face some problems:

Blurred vision: Objects may appear distorted, bent, wavy, or blurry.

Depth perception: Difficulty determining how close or far away objects are.

Eyestrain: Your eyes may feel tired as they adjust to the new glasses.

Headache and nausea: Any of the above symptoms can cause headache, nausea and dizziness.

In most cases, the more you wear the glasses, the sooner you will get used to them.

How Long Does it Take to Get Used to My New Eyeglasses?

Most problems with getting used to new glasses go away on their own within a few days, but for some people the adjustment process can take up to two weeks.

However, if after two or three days you still have eyestrain, blurred vision, and especially headaches, contact your ophthalmologist. Your eye doctor may ask you to come to the clinic to look at your eyes, check the fit of the glasses, and even check if the glasses fit you.

What Can I Do to Fit My Glasses Faster?

The best way to get used to new glasses is to wear them. Put on your new glasses as soon as you wake up in the morning and wear them as long as possible every day.

Even if your old glasses are more comfortable, don't switch between new glasses and old glasses. Throw away your old glasses if you must! Constantly changing glasses will make it difficult for you to get used to new glasses and this will prolong the adaptation process.

Why Are New Eyeglasses a Headache?

As you get used to your new glasses, your eyes and brain have to work harder to see clearly. The more energy you expend to see, the more likely you are to experience a headache.

It's normal to experience headaches the first day you wear a new pair of glasses, but if you're still having headaches after two or three days, see your eye doctor.
